On March 19 Ukrainian Film Academy announced nominees for the Third national film prize “Golden Top”; the list includes The Hungry Spirit, ananimated short film produced by Animagrad.
The Hungry Spirit is a film telling about the terrible times of the Famine in Ukraine in 1930s; it will compete for the prestigious award from Ukrainian Film Academy in Best Animated Film nomination. Other nominees from this category include three participants of LINOLEUM international animation festival: Mimicry (directed by Freud M. Weiser), Monakh (directed by Sashko Danylenko), and The Darkest Blue (directed by Oksana Kyurmaz). The fifth nominee is How to Cheer Up Solitude by Stepan Koval. The winners will be announced during the official award ceremony of the National Film Prize to take place on April 19, 2019.
Just a reminder: The Hungry Spirit social and educational film was created by Animagrad upon commission of the Ministry of Social Policy and released on November 21, 2018. The cartoon was directed by Kostyantyn Fedorov. The protagonist is a young girl living during the Famine and personally feeling the terror of this major crime against humanity.
The release was dedicated to the 85th anniversary of the Famine.
