FILM.UA Group in Berlin: the only Ukrainian film in Berlinale program, opening of The Rising Hawk official sales and cooperation with China

Last week European Film Market and the 69th Berlin Film Festival finished their work. FILM.UA Group participated actively both in the festival and in the film market: a movie produced by Kinorob made it to Berlinale competition program, and projects produced by the Group were presented at its own and national stands.  

On February 10, Berlin Film Festival main competition saw the global premiere of Mr Jones, a political thriller produced by FilmProdukcja, Kinorob and Jones Boy Films with the support of Ukrainian State Film Agency. The film received positive feedback from film critics and the press, and The Guardian referred to the film as a “powerful, brave and sincere drama.”  

At the film market during the festival, there were FILM.UA Group stand and Ukrainian Films national stand installed. At FILM.UA Group stand, the teams of FILM.UA Distribution, Postmodern Digital, Postmodern Postproduction and DCU were working.

At EFM, official sales of The Rising Hawk (Kinorob) historical action movie were opened; in the very beginning of the market we announced the first deal: Flins & Piniculas acquired screening rights for the territory of Spain.

Besides, Postmodern Digital announced its cooperation with Chinese production companies Tianjin Orange Image Media, Horgos Orange Image Media, Tianjin Maoyan Weying Media and Horgos Youth Enlight Pictures on Looking Up project. This is a feature film telling a story of an astronaut, his relationship with his father and career in the context of development and changes in China during the last 30 years. Postmodern Digital creates visual effects for the movie.

The work of Ukrainian national stand was ensured by Ukrainian State Film Agency jointly with the leading industry players, including Ukrainian Film Association. The stand presented materials on Ukrainian cinema. And during Co-Production Market – Country Session presentation of Ukraine and producers’ lunch were held.
