Ukrainian Stories for Global Audience. FILM.UA Group Delegation Back From European Film Market

On February 15-23 in Berlin, European Film Market was traditionally held under the auspices of the 68th Berlin IFF. At the market, FILM.UA Group presented its projects in different stages of development and production as well as Kinorob projects and POSTMODERN Digital services. FILM.UA Group stand was located in IFTA Pavilion in MGB under No. 153. EFM 2018 headliners were The Stolen Princess, Mavka. The Forest Song and Zakhar Berkut – these projects were put in the limelight, and their posters adorned our stand.

At the market, the completed version of animated feature The Stolen Princess was screened in English for the first time (at the previous markets, we screened work-in-progress materials), and all market participants could fully appreciate the story told by Ukrainian animators from Animagrad.

Before, we informed that at the beginning of the market a deal was struck to sell rights to the screenings of The Stolen Princess animated feature and The Stronghold fantasy feature in the Czech Republic and Slovakia. By the end of the market, the geography of The Stolen Princess sales has expanded by one more territory, Portugal, with Cinemundo acquiring all rights, including theatrical release. Negotiations are ongoing with a range of other European countries. Theatrical release in Ukraine starts on March 7, and more theatrical premieres are to follow in Israel, Romania, Croatia, Turkey, Bulgaria, Poland, Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia. Presently, release dates for other territories the project was sold to are being finalized.

Besides, WestEndFilms, an international distributor of political thriller Gareth Jones jointly produced by Kinorob (Ukraine), Film Produkcja (Poland) and Crab Apple Film (UK), has made an exclusive announcement about the cast and start of international sales to Variety publication. Just a reminder: the lead roles in the film will be played by James Norton and Vanessa Kirby.

While FILM.UA Berlin delegation is writing reports and follow-ups, the distribution department is packing is suitcases for the following market – FILMART to traditionally take place in Hong Kong on March 19-22.
