On October 10, 2017 Ukrposhta, the main post of the country having an exclusive right to publish and launch stamps into circulation, presents a new post miniature dedicated to the biggest film event of the autumn, release of Ukrainian fantasy film The Stronghold based on a book with the same title by Volodymyr Rutkivsky. The Stronghold tells about a regular guy Vitko who during a solar eclipse finds himself a thousand years back, in Kyiv Rus, in the heat of a deciding battle between Good and Evil. The film was made by Kinorob studio with the support of Ukrainian State Film Agency; the director is Yuriy Kovalyov. Presentation and ceremony of stamp postmarking will take place during the film’s pre-premiere screening.
The postage stamp portrays three knights, three Ukrainian ancient protectors who are also characters in the film – they are Oleshko (Roman Lutsky), Ilya (Oleg Voloschenko) and Dobrynya (Oleksandr Komarov). 130 thousand stamps have been printed at the face value of 4 UAH, which equals the fee for sending a simple letter under 20 g within Ukraine. The postage stamp has also been complemented by “First Day” envelope and a maxi card with the film’s poster.

Ukrainian stories and Ukrainian heroes inspire us to change the world for the better. With the help of contemporary cinema they become more vivid and understandable for everyone. It is for popularizing these ideas and for supporting Ukrainian cinematography that Ukrposhta initiated the launch of a postage stamp with The Stronghold film characters,” says Igor Smilyansky, Ukrposhta CEO.

Over 200 people worked on making this Ukrainian fantasy film; even a wooden fortress was specially constructed. 160 costumes were made for the actors and about 150 more, selected from private collections. Golem, a stone monster created exclusively with computer graphics, is also a part of the film.
