The shooting period will last until August 2018
FILM.UA together with the STB TV Channel started filming the multi-episode costume drama “The Bondmaid”. The shooting will last for more than a year, taking place in the most picturesque places of Ukraine: Chechel’s Manor (Samchyky village, Khmelnytskyi region), Vyshnevetskyi Castle (Ternopil region), Kachanovka Palace and Park Ensemble (Chernihiv region), Pyrohov in Vinnytsya, and Zhytomyr Regional Philharmonic.
“The idea of creating a costume drama ripened for a long time. If you look at the successful series of recent years, then you’ll see the demand for such projects is quite high. This is a phenomenon that cannot be ignored. People like to watch beautiful costume stories, where there is passion, intrigue, tears and love. It seems that you are transferred to another, incredibly beautiful epoch. The action takes place in the 19th century. Our story is the time of fabulous outfits: huge bell dresses, which took kilometers of cloth, rouches, laces, and bows to be made... Such stories are always beautiful, it is always about love, nobility, and struggle of the sublime with the base and unworthy”, – comments Tala Prystaetska, the creative producer and author of the idea.
The series “The Bondmaid” tells the story of 18-year-old Kateryna. She is beautiful, clever and by the will of her godmother was raised as a lady of noble blood, but for the whole world, Kateryna is only someone else’s property, a bondmaid of the richest landowner in Nizhyn – Chervinskyi. Struggling for her freedom and the right to be happy, she will have to endure the deaths of her closest people, become the property of a woman who hates and dreams to kill her, survive the popular uprising, escape while being chased by a maniac, and flee from the one who wants to get her above all. What awaits Kateryna at the end of such a terrible and exhausting path to freedom?
“We have a lot of famous actors involved, who are already familiar to Ukrainian audience and whom the audience loves, but in our story, it will see them from the other side. For example, the wonderful Ukrainian actor Mark Drobot. In many TV series, he plays negative characters. But in “The Bondmaid”, Mark will have a great and interesting role with deep emotions, where he won’t be like the character that the viewer got used to at all”, – says Tala Prystaetska.
