Filming has started for a two-episode melodrama The Last Goodbye jointly produced by FILM.UA and channel Ukraine. The leads in the film are played by Ksenia Romenkova, Konstantin Samoukov, Valeria Khodos, Malvina Saliychuk, Maria Trepikova, and Andrey Fedinchik. The film was directed by Andrey Chernykh (The Waiting List, Strangely familiar)
“I am interested in making real woman’s films when it is much more complicated inside than it might seem at first. The Last Goodbye is a story about love which you are not in a hurry to obtain by willpower alone; this is the love you wait patiently for and believe it will surely come,” says Andrey Chernykh, film director.
Synopsis: One hot summer day, 24-year-old Andrey saves a drowning schoolgirl Vera. The girl falls in love with her savior, but he only sees a small shy girl in her. Soon, Andrey leaves for the city and marries a woman his age. Vera is left with his drawings, a medallion, and Jim the puppy they saved together. Years have passed, and from an awkward girl Vera has turned into a successful and beautiful woman; she started her own business and got married. Still, she is not happy. One day, Vera meets Andrey in a veterinary clinic but does not reveal she is that same Vera. However, problems with business and her husband’s betrayal destroy her well-arranged life. And when things get rough, Andrey comes to the rescue just like many years ago.
“This project is very dear to me and interesting in its idea of happiness, which might sometimes seem unreachable, but if you believe and wait, you’ll surely get what you want. I like it that my character is focused and can achieve everything on her own, and I also like her faith in happy future,” says Ksenia Romenkova playing Vera as an adult. “I am really looking forward to meeting my unusual partner, a dog named Jim. This story is close to me because I also have a pet friend.”
The filming will take place in Kyiv, and some of the scenes will be filmed on the bank of Desna. “I am really worried about the weather because we’ll have to film at Desna, and our actors, Masha Trepikova and Konstantin Samoukov, will be jumping into the water. The current in Desna is really strong, plus the water is now ice-cold,” says the director, concerned.
The filming period for The Last Goodbye melodrama will last until the end of May, and the premiere will take place in autumn 2017 on channel Ukraine.
