In Kyiv, filming started for a four-episode melodrama Cafe on Sadovaya Street, a joint production of FILM.UA and STB. The series will be premiered on STB channel in 2017.
Three women, three stories. Different ages, different characters. Each one has her own secret. Olga, Nika and Valentina work in Cafe on Sadovaya Street and want to be happy in love. Olga, having served a prison sentence instead of her husband, tries to get back her son who her traitor husband gave up to be raised in a different family. Valentina cannot admit that her eternal controversy with the café owner masks real love. Nika has run away from wealthy parents and betrayal, now trying to start a new life among simple and honest people. To find their true love, all of them will have to cover a difficult path. But in any dire circumstances these women always support each other and soon become real friends.
“This is a dramatic film about mother’s love, the strongest love able to reach all peaks and goals,” says Kristina Sivolap, film director. “Finding a female lead took a lot of time. After the very first audition, Marina Kuklina looked very convincing as Olga. I should note that it is important for me that this character is played by an actress who has a child of her own. One can act out a mother using only professional skills, but having experienced pregnancy and childbirth on her own, the woman will interpret the fight for a child in a different way.”
“After reading the script I understood that it is my story. I have a son and each passing day I become even more convinced that being a mother is the most magical mission a woman can have,” says Marina Kuklina, playing the lead role of Olga. “To earn the right to happiness, you must stand up for being true to yourself, your feelings and your way. This happiness will be real, possibly very fragile, having made it through pain and disappointments, but still real.”
Apart from a captivating story, Cafe on Sadovaya Street will showcase beautiful Kyiv landscapes and offer a fresh look on well-known spots. “We were looking for a café our plot is based around for a long time, and found it on the edge of the city, with a marvelous view on the lake. Among other Kyiv locations are the beautiful neighborhood of Obolon, the town of Irpen, an amusement park, a railway station, suburban highways and, naturally, FILM.UA studio pavilions,” says Katya Shvets, project producer.
The filming will last till mid-June.
