Baby Boxes, a melodrama series, is dedicated to the complicated issue of abandoned infants. It is a film about salvation and kindness, human vices and a huge will to live; it tells stories about choices and describes an opportunity to become a whole world for someone.
The first season of the series (24 episodes) was shown in spring 2016, and the audience took to it immediately. Almost 17,000,000 Ukrainians watched it on air of Ukraina TV channel, and practically at once after the premiere the work on season two started.
“We are very happy that Baby Boxesis to continue,” says Anatoliy Grigoryev, series director. “The series is not just about saving babies; it is about these babies changing lives of different people. Most stories shown in our series are based on real events.” The filming will last six months and will take place in Kyiv, including real hospitals, because accuracy, credibility and sincerity are very important for the series creators. Sergey Demidov, producer, says, “When writing the script, before filming and at the shoot we constantly consult doctors, the real experts. Because if we mess up the details, the audience won’t believe us.”
Each episode of the series is a story about saving a newborn infant planted in the so-called “baby box”, a special box equipped in a maternity clinic or a children’s hospital for those who would like to get rid of the infant anonymously. Our characters are doctors and medical staff of the children’s hospital who take the foundlings on, treat them, surround with kindness and care. There are also parents worth this name – those who have come to a conscious decision to become a father or a mother to someone else’s child. Still, the baby remains the central character, because it is around him or her that all the events unfold.
“There is going to be an interesting plot twist. In season one, head doctor Vera Vasilyevna Sokolova lives through her own challenging story: she saves lives of infants and dreams about her own children, but cannot manage it with her husband… And in the end of season one Vera Vasilyevna becomes a happy mother, like in a fairy tale – ‘so they lived happily ever after.’ In season two we’ll see what can happen after the fairy tale is over,” says director Anatoliy Grigoryev, slightly lifting the veil over the plot mysteries.
The series will be premiered in 2017, on air of Ukraina TV channel.
