Throughout December 2-4, FILM.UA Faculty will be holding a workshop for producers, developed by Lydia Cedrone, Chair of New York Film Academy Los Angeles (NYFA LA) MFA Feature Film Project Producing Program, based on her 20-year long teaching and cinema industry experience. It will take place under the auspices of the Motion Picture Association of Ukraine
An acting producer, Lydia Cedrone has received economic and humanitarian education, as the producer’s work is nothing but a synthesis of business and creativity. In order to define the proper ratio of the ingredients in that mixture, Lidia broke her workshop into two parts: creative producing and production management. Thus the workshop will come in handy for both the producers aiming at active participation in the creative process, and the directors questioning the managerial part of producing.
What does the workshop outline look like? After the introductory lecture, the NYFA lecturer will brainstorm with the workshop’s audience on outlining the project concept which will be refined and streamlined throughout the next day for the sake of its final pitching presentation to channels, to Ukrainian State Film Agency studios, or at project markets.
For the sake of the further concept development, the workshop participants will learn about some major elements of creative producing: financial structure of studio (major) and independent projects, co-production, taking advantage of the state financial incentives and reimbursements, advertising and marketing formats, rights sales, cooperation with sales agents and international distributors within various distribution platforms. Combining in various relevant ways, the pitch session key elements mentioned above enter any motion picture project business plan and the basis of any TV series. The constituents of any successful pitch session will get a special attention within the workshop.
A separate day of the workshop will be dedicated to outlining the production process, including pre-production, film set hierarchy, document circulation, budgeting, rules and practices of scheduling.
