Poor people by Solomiya Tomaschuk was short-listed for International Short Competition at Leiden International Film Festival. Event will take place from October 30 till November 8 in Leiden, Netherlands.
Last year director of the film "Poor people" Solomiya Tomashchuk and D.O.P. Andrey Kotlyar won scholarships from FILM.UA Faculty by passing the qualifying competition on the basis of their earlier works. In addition, Solomiya's diploma project "Poor People" won a grant for producing, which is given only to one project among all the submitted by the university. The film was shot in February and completed in June, starring famous Ukrainian actors - Taras Denisenko, Vitalina Bibliv and Katerina Kisten.
Synopsis: Andriy lives together with his paralyzed wife in the middle of nowhere. Every day he looks after her, and at the same time builds her a coffin and arranges funeral banquet. One day he betrays her with a local barmaid Anka...
Founded in 2006, the Leiden International Film Festival (LIFF) has become one of the leading film festivals in the Netherlands showcasing feature films that examine the border between art-house and mainstream from all over the world. The 2014 edition lasted 10 days, screened 87 films, from 28 countries including Whiplash, Coming Home, Mommy, Leviathan, Wish I Was Here, Camp X-Ray, Calvary and What We Do In the Shadows.
