March 17 a workshop within Skill Bill Start programme was dedicated to the choice of camera and lighting equipment for filming. Experts were Dmitry Tartyshnikov and Mikhail Shashko.
Main taking points:
Cameras. All cameras are divided into digital and film. Now almost all the films are shot on digital cameras.
Most released films in Ukraine and in the world are shot on digital hi-end cameras. The main market in Ukraine is divided between ARRI Alexa and RED. RED camera appeared earlier and conquered the market due to the fact that at a relatively low cost it gave a high level digital image. This camera has all the same accessories as a film camera. In its turn ARRI released D21 camera, that also had a high level image, but was a bit more expensive.
Optics. Traditional optics manufacturers are companies Zeiss (Germany) and Cooke (Great Britain). Later appeared other manufacturers, for example, - Schneider.
When choosing optics take note of class and the amount of glass in the lens, the resolution of the lens, light sensitivity. Any object - is a complex engineering and technical design with a very precise execution.
Accessories for shooting can be divided into the necessary ones (for example, a small monitor for focus puller) and those that increase comfort (radio-focus). It is important to remember that comfort when shooting improves your performance.
Accessories include: focus management, protection from unnecessary light sources, monitors and playback, sound protection for the equipment and accessories for the staff.
Special equipment. Special equipment is needed for all types of car shooting.
Light. Lighting is used due to the fact that the human eye perceives brightness levels greater than the highest quality equipment. Given the technical limitations, by using additional lighting operator tries to equalize the brightness range.
GRIP. This term combines all equipment that may be required by the cameraman, except the lighting devices and cameras: tripods, flags, hangers and fasteners, and various accessories.
