Yesterday in Los Angeles Visual Effects Society announced its winners. The VES Awards recognizes and honors the most outstanding visual effects work of the year and honors the artists who created them.

This year, VES Awards shortlisted for "Outstanding Created Environment in a Commercial, Broadcast Program, or Video Game" live-action trailer War Thunder: Victory is ours, created for Gaijin Entertainment. Video has already collected more than 5 million views on Youtube. But the second year in a row the cherished statuette goes to the creators of virtual locations for "Game of Thrones."

Big Hero 6 was the big winner of the evening garnering five awards. The teams from Dawn of the Planet of the Apes (feature film), Game of Thrones (broadcast) and SSE (commercial) led the wins in their respective categories, taking home three awards each.

“Spending the last two years in the world of light sabers and tie fighters has been absolutely challenging and a dream come true,” Abrams said.

Abrams said before the show that being chosen for the VES Visionary Award was “clearly a clerical error. But mostly, I just work with a whole lot of incredible VFX artists. This is what made me want to get involved in movies.”
