It is today that the results of the 10-th competitive selection of cinema projects have been announced by Ukrainian Film State Agency and the project “The King of Ukraine”, mentioned before, is known to have gained the state support. This news is of primary importance for us since the storyline of the film is a long forgotten story of Vasyl Vyshyvanyi, subsequently archduke Wilhelm von Habsburg, who belonged to one of the most famous and influential ruling houses of Europe.  The film will be co-produced by Signal Red and Gernot Stadler Filmproduktion.

The life story of archduke Wilhelm, one of the most outstanding political figures of the XX century, is still a silenced part in the modern history of Gabsburg Empire, although his professional life and activities are also the history of Ukraine of the ХХ century in particular and the history of Europe in general. In Ukraine Vasyl Vyshyvanyi is known as a fighter for the independence, but his popularity leaves much to be desired as well as little is known about his fate.  It is this lacuna that we intend to fill up: the film «The king of Ukraine» is an interesting and exciting combination of documentary elements, interviews with Ukrainian, Austrian and American historians intertwined with historical material and play scenes. The viewer is going to set off to visit all the places that shaped the personality and determined the fate of the hero. Among these places are Kyiv, Lviv, Chernivtsi, Losijn, Vienna and Paris.

Above all, the film depicts Wilhelm von Habsburg as a dreamer and visionary as well as reveals how and why he formed his vision of the future Ukrainian nation. However, along with the story about the outstanding and multifaceted personality of Wilhelm von Habsburg and the way he influenced the history of Europe in the XX century, the film aims at bringing his historical figure back into the minds and consciousness of Ukrainians and Europeans.

Moreover, we would like to congratulate our colleagues from FILM.UA Group, Glowberry, Animagrad as well as Kinorob production on winning in the 10-th cinema projects competition of Ukrainian Film State Agency.
