This Friday, the guests of the 7th Book Arsenal international festival are to expect a packed program from Glowberry production.

On May 19 at 6 PM, the screening of a pilot episode from Mom Hurries Homeproject will take place, followed by a meeting with Svetlana Dorosheva, the author of Mom Hurries Home book, as well as a presentation of Live Notepad, an AR app made specifically for the festival.

Live Notepad is an original children’s coloring book made using augmented reality (AR) technologies; it features the characters from Mom Hurries Home series. With the help of an app for smartphones and tablets, right before the eyes of a young artist the colored picture comes alive and turns into a 3D image.

3D Artist application was commissioned by Glowberry and developed by Signal Red production house. It will be available in Ukrainian and international versions; you can download an app for Android here, and the IOS one will follow shortly.

The AR app works only with Live Notepad; its coloring pages serve as activation tags. You just have to install 3D Artist on your smartphone or table and point the camera to a colored drawing in Live Notepad for the miracle to happen.

“The integration of augmented reality into a book is a rather new tendency, and it is with great pleasure that we are taking it on. The coloring book with a 3D effect creates a real miracle before the child’s eyes: he/she can choose colors and shapes and see how a 2D character comes alive in a new color, gains spatial dimensions and becomes almost real. This helps children to develop their creativity and believe that many things are possible. It is only the first learning game in the Mom Hurries Home project line; more surprises for young artists and creators are still in the making,” says Olga Cherepanova, Glowberry director and creative producer.

“We have made this AR app for each young artist to see his or her work come alive,” says Yevgeniy Sannikov, Signal Red creative director. “These peculiar objects become a part of your reality, allowing to imagine, say, a green-and-pink dinosaur and see how it could look like. We do a lot of development in AR and can confidently say that this technology is currently in high demand; it allows to do things which seemed impossible only yesterday.”

By the time the first season comes out, project team plans to widen the range of learning and gaming apps for children.

Book Arsenal guests will be able to try Live Notepad and talk to the authors of the idea on May 19 in the Hall of Painted Stories in Mystetsky Arsenal at 6 PM. The presentation of pilot episode for Mom Hurries Home cartoon will take place in the same room; during this presentation Olga Cherepanova, Glowberry creative director, and Yevgeniy Alekhin, animated series director, will tell the audience about the way Mom Hurries Home project made it from the book to the series. The guests will also be able to meet Svetlana Dorosheva; Glowberry publishing house organized her trip to Ukraine specifically to take part in this event. Svetlana is a well-known illustrator and author of the story in Mom Hurries Home book. For the last eight years Svetlana has been living in Israel and creating wonderful illustrations for publishing houses all over the world.

This year, Book Arsenal will take place on May 17-21. The guests can expect new books from over 150 publishing houses as well as over a hundred of author and theme events. The exhibition visitors will have a chance to attend five fascinating events joined into Great Screenings program and dedicated to FILM.UA studio projects based on literary works; there will also be a stand in the exhibition pavilion with books and souvenirs from FILM.UA Group companies.

FYI: Mom Hurries Home is a series continuing a successful brand: a book with the same title was published in Ukrainian in 2010 and very soon became popular among children and their parents. An interactive version of the book for Android and IOS enjoys immense success and has been downloaded over 50,000 times. The book this summer will be published in China. Mom Hurries Home is an animated series for children and adults alike who believe in miracles and magic which can happen right on the familiar city streets and even in the comfort of one’s own home. Lyosha’s mom and dad always hurry home to their son Lyosha (Lesyk in Ukrainian) and find themselves in magic adventures and surprising situations. But they still make it to the family dinner on time. As for their stories, they inspire Lyosha and his friends for their own new games and adventures. The series is produced by Animagrad studio.

Glowberry publishing house became a part of FILM.UA Group in 2016.   Signal Red is a creative agency and production house providing a wide range of services in computer graphics, VFX and TV branding, having extensive experience in producing documentaries and popular science films as well as developments in the field of AR and VR technologies.
