From April 30 till May 14 at St Sophia square in Kyiv, a fan zone for Eurovision 2017 will be set up. Visitors from all over the world will become the first to see the premiere of a cycle of short ambient videos for BACK TO BASICS project produced by FILM.UA (director Oleksiy Guz, producer Olena Malkova, graphics by Signal Red). In parallel with screenings at the square, the videos will be published on FILM.UA Facebook page and YouTube channel.
There hasn’t been a premiere of all videos in Ukraine yet. In 2016, only two episodes were released at the official YouTube channel of FILM.UA Group: Ivano-Frankivsk
and Chernivtsi regions.
Back to Basics videos are dedicated to Ukrainian culture, traditions and folk customs. A part of the cycle titled National Festive Outfits will show the audience how a Ukrainian woman looked like in the 19th and 20th centuries depending on her age, social standing and the region she lived in. To this end, each short but vivid episode will create an ethnic image characteristic for a certain region.
Back to Basics project became the first digital content produced by FILM.UA and presented at Amazon platform, a company with the biggest global turnover selling goods and services online.
The project was created with the involvement of Ukrainian Institute of Fashion History. National costumes for the project were provided from private collections. Music performed by Ukrainian folk musicians was written specifically for the project.
Just a reminder: Eurovision 2017 will be hosted by Kyiv. Semifinals will take place on May 9 and 11, and grand final on May 13. The specially constructed stage at St Sophia square will welcome artists from all over Ukraine. The organizer of fan zone at this location is Folk Ukraine, an ethnocultural project.
