This year, the first Ukrainian noir drama ‘Hide and Seek’ had gone a long way from the finish of production and the tour through the most famous series festivals of Europe to its premiere on Ukrainian TV.
The premiere broadcast of ‘Hide and Seek’ had happened on ICTV channel in October. We are very grateful to all the viewers who were following the plot, waited for every next episode and left their feedback, making ICTV a slot leader.
Earlier we have told about the series’ representations on MIPDrama Buyers Summit in Cannes, The Great Series Summit in Cologne, NATPE Eastern European content market in Budapest, Série Series festival in Fontainebleau, Kyiv Media Week, Serial Killer in Brno, MIPCOM film market in Cannes, MIA Summit in Rome. But the story of the project doesn’t end there: it continues to amaze and conquer the world’s biggest festivals.
In November,‘Hide and Seek’ series was presented at SERIENCAMP TV film and series festival in Munich. The project was introduced by its producers Olesya Lukyanenko and Kateryna Vyshnevska on the panel ‘New Frontiers of Serial Storytelling’ dedicated to Central, Eastern, and South-Eastern Europe. Along with ‘Hide and Seek’, two other projects were introduced as a part of a discussion, both created by HBO Europe: Croatian thriller ‘Success’ and Polish series ‘Wataha’. By the way, FILM.UA took part in the filming of the Ukrainian block in one of the seasons of ‘Wataha’
European colleagues had referred to Ukrainian noir as “a visually impeccable criminal noir saga” and had noted the high production quality. The screening for two episodes of the series took place at the festival as well.
The next step is Göteborg Film Festival, the main festival for the Scandinavian region and the main forum for the film industry of the region, which would happen to the end of January in Goteborg. ‘Hide and Seek’ will be represented at the two-day conference TV Drama Vision, that would take place at the festival. Every year this conference houses a discussion about series produced outside of the Scandinavian region, international series that are expected to influence the world series industry in the upcoming year. Thus, ‘Hide and Seek’ series is in the trend!
Also, this project is a part of a special program that exists for three years already. The festival would organize a binge-watching session to one of the series in the program, a screening of all the episodes back to back. The selected project must be a breakthrough in the European series production and has to be captivating to such an extent that it would make a viewer watch it for hours at the time. In 2018, a screening of the German project ‘Babylon Berlin’ had happened in this project, in 2019 - Italian ‘Il Miracolo’. And in 2020 the viewer will be able to enjoy all the episodes of ‘Hide and Seek’.
And then, the series goes to the high seas: very soon it will be available to the audience in Belgium, Netherlands, Luxemburg, Czech Republic, Italy, and Germany thanks to the agreements concluded by the international distributor of our project ZDF Enterprises.
We congratulate our colleagues and wish them new success in the upcoming year.
For those who had missed the series on the TV, the project is available at the official FILM.UA YouTube channel through this link.
