A couple of days ago in Kyiv filming of a new melodrama with a detective twist The Cuckoo Clock has started; this is a joint project of FILM.UA and Ukraina TV channel.

The first filming day for the new melodrama took place at FILM.UA studio. It is here that in the presence of the whole film crew the project plate was broken to pieces to symbolize the start of filming.

The director of the new project is Maksim Bernadsky. This is what he told about the film:

This is a story about love, feelings and relationships but also about fear. Each of us has past experiences and skeletons in the closet. It is important to understand that all secrets will be unearthed at some point, and all skeletons normally fall out. And if you’re weak they’ll kill you, but if you’re strong you have every chance to defeat your past and move on. Katya the protagonist has a chance to get out of a hard life story but she has to come to terms with her past, change herself and become different.”

The principal role in the film was played by a young and already well-known actress Darya Plakhtiy. As the director said, the actress was able to overtake her strong competitors and get the female lead.

One of the project’s producers Anna Skok told about locations to be used for filming.

One of the most important film locations is the character’s mansion; he is an owner of construction and development business. This is a house in Kyiv region, and the nature around is beautiful: the building’s windows look out on the forest, and there is a river slowly flowing nearby.

Another interesting location is Zverinetske cemetery which is a great fit thanks to its picturesque nooks and good geographical layout. We are going to film funerals of two characters here who are husband and wife (I won’t tell you the names to avoid spoilers). First we film the actor dead, then he “comes to life” and participates in several scenes, and afterwards the scenes of his funeral will be filmed. Such chronology is a usual thing for cinema.

Besides, there is an important detail in our film, a cuckoo clock. It is an antique object which will arrive from far away. This clock is an important symbol of the film, but in the end the main character gets rid of it, as if saying farewell to her past.”

About the film:

Katya Yudina has been very lucky in her life. She was born in a closely knit and wealthy family, she has a great boyfriend, this year she is to graduate from architecture college, and job offers are already flowing in. It seems like Katya has received a golden ticket in her life. But suddenly Katya’s mom Elena dies in strange circumstances. And just in two months Katya’s father Mikhail gets married for the second time. His new wife, beautiful Natalia, is just a couple of years older than Katya herself. Natalia tries hard to establish a bond with her stepdaughter who cannot forgive her father for forgetting Elena so quickly. And soon Katya is in for a new shock: Mikhail feels sick right at work and suddenly dies. The official verdict is a heart attack.

But Katya is convinced: somebody is cruelly and mercilessly killing the Yudin family…
