For the second time, FILM.UA Group participated in the biggest book industry event in Ukraine, eighth international festival “Book Arsenal” which took place from May 30 until June 3 in Mystetskyi Arsenal exhibition space.

This year, the festival was attended by 200 Ukrainian writers and 100 guests from over 30 countries; the total number of visitors was about 50,000.

At two of its stands, in the adult and children’s sections of the Arsenal, the Group presented its feature films in production based on books by Ukrainian and international writers, as well as multimedia projects and animation. Besides, Arsenal visitors happily purchased books published both by companies part of FILM.UA Group and by the Group partners. The souvenirs dedicated to FILM.UA Group projects were also a huge success.

A significant event of the Arsenal was a presentation of a series of books dedicated to Mavka. The Forest Song future animation feature. The new project was presented by Anna Eliseeva, creative producer at FILM.UA Group; Yevhen Sannikov, director at Signal Red; Virlyana Tkach, translator and director from New York: Iryna Myronova, WWF representative in Ukraine; and Vadym Romanenko, director at Kyiv Book House publishing. They told about the project and cooperation of film industry and publishers, also demonstrating some fascinating publications.

At Mavka stand at Book Arsenal, the books enjoyed enormous success. The book covers are with augmented reality effect, so the readers will be able to bring Mavka’s magic rune to life using Mavka AR app. The published copies use FSC-certified paper produced in responsible forestries. Besides, the book sales are a start of long-term eco-campaign House for the Lynx launched upon the initiative of Mavka team and WWF in Ukraine. The rare species of lynx has been included in the Red Book of Ukraine; its existence in Ukrainian forests is critical not only for our country but also for the whole Europe. From each sold copy, 5 UAH go to the research of Eurasian lynx population in Polissya.

Lynx and its cub will become characters in Mavka. The Forest Song cartoon and play an essential role in it.

Glowberry creative production presented two new books at Book Arsenal. The first one was Giant Has Awakened – a long-awaited sequel of Mom Hurries Home series created by writers Svitlana Dorosheva and Olga Cherepanova together with illustrator Olga Degtyarova. The book presentation took place in the format of a “creative breakfast” with authors who told about the search for the muse, details of work as co-authors and shared some secrets of creating successful long-running projects.

On the final day of the festival, a presentation of yet another hot new arrival from Glowberry took place: Oksana Stekhina presented her book about healthy eating What’s on the Platefor both children and adults; she has created it jointly with nutrition consultant Natalia Samoylenko.

The presentation of Felix. Austria feature (screening of a novel by Sofia Andrukhovych) and that of BACK TO BASICS multimedia project also spurred significant interest and reaction from the audience. Producers Olena Malkova and Nadia Zayonchkovska, as well as fashion historian Maria Kvitka, told about voluminous research work accompanying content creation during both development and filming, about the significance of precise details and the reality of a present time when a strong idea does not fit into one genre only.

The issues of screening and the interaction of text and film were raised at a discussion entitled “Contemporary Ukrainian screenings: mutually beneficial cooperation of publishing houses and film industry” organized by Ukrainian Film Association.

The speakers there were Anna Eliseeva, creative producer of Mavka. The Forest Song, and Akhtem Seitablayev, director of The Rising Hawk (produced by Kinorob and soon to go into filming period).

We are incredibly grateful to Book Arsenal organizers for their attention to Ukrainian cinema. Another word of thanks goes to all those who visited our stands and events.

See you in cinemas!
