The shooting began for Step Dan, a 16-episode dramedy produced by FILM.UA. The basis of the story is the relationship between two characters, Dan and Tina. They met in a bar in unusual circumstances but with rather standard expectations: a date, a one-night stand, and no strings attached… And both are totally fine with it.

However, just in the midst of their romantic evening an unusual company rushes into the house: three children and a severe-looking older woman. After a short exchange it turns out that these are Tina’s children and mother-in-law. And there is a 15-year age difference between Dan and Tina! Den’s first reaction is to run for his life. But it’s not that easy; though he used to successfully avoid serious relationships before, now Dan understands he’s in love. Will a 24-year-old guy be able to become a stepfather for three children? And how will 39-year-old Tina’s friends react to such an obvious mismatch? Will Tina herself be able to stand her lover’s badass friends, let alone the fact that hew new potential mother-in-law is her former school friend?

Step Dan (an adaptation of a successful New Zealand series Step Dave) is a family drama with comedy elements reflecting the world we live in. “It seems to us that the issue of age mismatch in relationships is of vital importance now. You can see similar couples everywhere. The age boundaries have blurred. It is often hard to determine how old someone is. Even though couples where a woman is older than man are still somewhat frowned upon in society, because it is believed that they don’t last long. Still, this story does not try to prove the contrary; the characters understand the complexity of the issue perfectly well and people around them constantly point to it as well… Still, they are incredibly attracted to each other,” says Olesya Lukyanenko, creative producer. “It is not a classic comedy; there are no jokes just for the fun of it. The ways characters react to the situation are funny and dramatic at the same time. Both have well-detailed and rich personalities. And as this story is first of all about relationships it was not hard to adapt. Human drama is universal and understood all over the world.”

The shooting will be taking place in Kiev until the end of August. The leads are played by Natalya Nozdrina and Stas Tikunov.
