Shooting of the first Ukrainian series in the genre of medical drama "Doctor on Call" has started. The series is produced by FILM.UA for TV channel "Ukraina". Filming will take place in Kiev until April 2016.
Every day the emergency care hospital receives hundreds of new patients. Each one has a clinical record with conflicts and problems behind it. Sometimes it is impossible to diagnose and prescribe treatment without revealing this information. The doctors become not just witnesses but hostages to the dramas and secrets of their patients; they help them to recover and
make vital decisions. Our characters are four doctors of an emergency care hospital. Each one has their own story about choosing medicine for career; all of them use different methods of treatment. One is totally committed to the hospital; another manages to achieve some kind of work-life balance. They are both cynical and compassionate, with their own merits and drawbacks, problems and issues. Each one is a real professional. The team includes a head doctor of the hospital, an experienced medical man and a talented manager. These four are no superheroes, but instead they are people who are on call 24/7 to save the lives of others.
"Each of the 41 episodes tells about two of our main characters examining two cases where human drama tightly intertwined with the detective, and all that has its own medical specialties, - says the producer Irina Kostyuk. - The series is based on the interesting stories and fascinating plot intrigues, which are taken from real life. Each case shows a situation through which either you yourself or your loved ones have lived through".
"Doctor on Call" is the first series in the genre of medical drama in which Ukrainian actors will speak in their native language. "All Ukrainian-speaking series that were shot before used an unnatural, theatrical language. Our series is about real life, so our heroes can not speak "plastic" Ukrainian, that is rarely used in everyday life. But on the other side shooting on surzhik was not an option. So for us it is a real challenge - to shoot a series in natural, modern Ukrainian language. Special thanks to the TV channel "Ukraina" for such a decision, - said the producer of the project Irina Kostyuk. - Group of authors works hard on the dialogues and texts. And I would like to pay tribute to the actors, they are great, when they learned that the shooting will be in Ukrainian they were very inspired and try to achieve this goal".
Main shooting location is FILM.UA's shooting stage. Here production designers have built a large-scale hospital set, where the main action will take place. Two doctors were invited to consult the group on the script, as well as give advices to the actors while rehearsals. In addition, professional doctors will take part in the shooting of complex scenes. "Still, it is worth noting that we have a feature film, so we have to reproduce all the medical details with documentary precision", - said Yulia Mischenko.
Shooting will last until April 2016. The series will premiere in spring on TV channel Ukraina.
